What is the Black National State?
The Black National State is an area in the Republic of South Africa, which was set aside from 1971 until 1994 for the development towards self-government.
Before 1980, this area was known as the Bantustan.
Ciskei was part of the Black National State until 1981 when it achieved independence.
Because of their racial basis, they were not recognized outside of South Africa.
